For the past year, I have been doing all I can to learn about fashion on my own. I’ve been just as interested in the history as I am with present designers and trends. And I’ve been trying to get to know the whole cast of characters, models, designers, editors, photographers. Through watching documentaries, subscribing to Vogue and Harper’s Bazzar, and reading biographies and memoirs, it’s been a major information overload! And with all the knowledge I have gained over the past several months, pronunciation has been my biggest issue. These names are outrageous! And with no professor there to verbalize them, it leaves you sort of afraid to speak what you know! It’s like learning a language. You could know all the grammar and vocab in the world, but if you don’t have the confidence to speak it, you aren’t going to say a thing! Trust me. I’ve been there.
So yesterday, as I was scrolling through my newsfeed, I was THRILLED to see Harper’s Bazzar’s post on how to pronounce designer’s names! It was like they read my mind! So if you need me at anytime today, I’ll be sitting here, reading through this list, realizing how much of a noodle I must have sounded like in the past as I casually discussed Ann Demeulemeester. Hey, at least now I know!
